Wonder Winnies & my eternal thirst

I have to prelude this itty bitty complaint with the statement that I've had a dream run pregnancy thus far, no sickness, swelling, sleeplessness or sobbing like a loon.

However at the ripe and round mark of 31 weeks I've developed this burning, insatiable thirst that would rival that of Edward Cullen's around sweet (but pathetically moany & unco )Bella. It wakes me up at night and drives me to dementia at my desk not to mention the increased travel on an already well traveled route to the bathroom after all my attempts to re-hydrate.

I'm also a beverage snob to make things trickier. I won't drink soda period. Diet or otherwise or any energy drinks or basically anything with sweeteners, fizz, colours or chemicals. I don't do fruit juice unless juiced by my own juicer and mixed with veg or juiced fresh in a cafe. Just too much sugar involved. I sometimes test myself out by taking sips of  hubby's Coke Zero to make sure I'm not missing out and my taste buds have become so far removed from it now it truly just tastes wrong & rank to me.

See - am  a total soft drink pain in soft arse.

To quench my thirst I've been chained to my bobble filtered water bottle. I've one by the sofa, one in work and one by my bed and have been slurping on watermelons and coconut water and my own green juices. All very well and good until you are out and about and find yourself without above supplies with a mouth drier than a dead dingo's donger.

That's where I thought these clever little quenchers from the makers of Nudie would be perfect - for those times I'm out and parched or in a cafe or buying my lunch and just don't fancy water and coconut water is not available (often the case in Hobart!!)

Wonder Winnies are water based drinks with natural fruit extracts, an added herb or supplement and sweetened with stevia. No bull, no crap, no chemicals and very low in sugar and cals thanks to it just being fruit extract.

There are five Wonder Winnies in the range to slurp from
  1. Cranberry & Apple with Aloe Vera (digestive aid)
  2. Grapefruit with Gingko Biloba (brain and circulation booster)
  3. Lemon & Apple with Guarana (energy & metabolism booster)
  4. Cranberry, Apple & Lemon with Echinacea (immune booster)
  5. Cranberry & Raspberry with Rosehip (high in Vits C & E, immune booster, good for circulation & inflammation)
My favs? I like it tart baby. Don't judge me! The Grapefruit with Gingko Biloba is my winner, extra quenching and lowest in sugar content at just over 3g per bottle followed by the Lemon & Apple with Guarana still sharp but tangy too thanks to the apple and am also partial to the Cranberry & Raspberry with Rosehip fruity but still with that nice Cranberry sou.rness

A bug bear if I may? Not anywhere on the bottle (albeit a cutely branded bottle) does it tell you what benefit the wonder herb or supplement like guarana does for you? Bit of an oversight I think. Would make choosing a flavour for those indecisive people like me easier and could pick a supplement depending on my mood de jour. I've added what each drink's supplement offers above for your repertoire of Wonder Winnie knowledge.

Now I can't find origin of the name - apparently some chick in the Nudie office decided one day that she found it impossible to source a thirst quenching drink that wasnt mad eof crap, maybe she was Winnie. Would love to know (answers on a postcard!) but on googling all I get is pic of Winnie from the Wonder Years!! Remember her?

Seems Wonder Years are more like Wonderbra Years now, poor Winnie, must have been strapped for cash, should have stuck with Arnold, bet he works for Google as a programmer or something now, bless his cotton socks.

Anywho if your stuck for a thirsty, low cal healthy fix these ain't a bad option and are available in IGAs, Woolies & etc so shouldn't be too hard to source even in Hobart.

Watch out for the exclusive Winnie Cooper / Wonder Winnie/ Wonderbra OK front cover sponsorship deal, it's only a matter of time I would say, you heard it her first Besties!!

My preference is still coconut water it's definitely a better quencher but sometimes a gal feels a little fruity isn't that right Winnie? ;)

Wonder Winnies provided for consideration, soft drink snobbery and opinions my own
